Self-Referred Patients
When clients self-refer (or pay out-of-pocket), we have the freedom to mix and match a variety of bodywork “elements” — ie. styles, techniques, and modalities — that best serve your current needs.
Massage Treatment & Well-Being
For the most part, the massage I offer tends to be slow, quiet, responsive, and powerful. I call it “deep myofascial listening,” or “myofascial decompression.” By allowing the body time to integrate and respond, I’m usually able to get better results (with a lot less pain and discomfort) than your typical “deep tissue” massage.
However, when a different approach is needed, we can add movement and stretching, even engage the body’s neuromuscular reflexes to achieve the results you need.
And of course, relaxation massage is inherently therapeutic; in a world as hectic and busy as ours, allowing your nervous system to settle into a space of serenity & calm can be incredibly beneficial.
I also specialize in abdominal and visceral massage (gentle work with internal organs), even intra-oral treatment for tension headaches, migraines, sinus issues, and jaw pain.
Cranio-Sacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy picks up where many other forms of medicine leave off: working directly with the nervous system to support your physical, emotional, and spiritual health. By tapping in and responding to the body’s cranial rhythm (a core component of the nervous system), we can affect all other structures and systems in the body. It’s a whole-body approach; incredibly gentle, remarkably subtle, and extremely powerful — especially over time.
On a structural level, CST can help treat physical issues:
- Recurring headaches and migraines
- TMJD and jaw pain
- MTBI & Concussion symptoms
- Sinus congestion
- Low-back and hip pain
On a mental/emotional level, CST has been known to help treat:
- Unwinding of physical traumas (ie. falls, impacts, whiplash)
- Insomnia
- Stress reduction/management
- Anxiety/Depression
- Emotional issues (grief/loss/sadness/fear/guilt/shame)
Overall, CST works with the “gray areas,” those subtleties of your body and emotions that respond to nuance. You may be surprised at how quickly your entire being can respond to the reality of being supported, fully and deeply.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle form of bodywork that and accelerates fluid return in the body, reducing swelling and supporting immune function. Similar to our circulatory system, the lymphatic system plays a vital role in keeping our bodies healthy and functioning.
Fluid can accumulate in the body for any number of reasons: injuries, overuse, lack of movement, illness, allergic reactions & environmental factors, to name just a few. When fluid accumulates in a particular area of the body, swelling occurs. It’s the lymphatic system’s job to collect that fluid, along with waste products (such as dead cells and bacteria) and large molecules of protein, and transport them to the nodes and organs where they can be processed and reused or eliminated.
Using specific techniques at known locations on the body, MLD can be used to treat:
- Sprains & strains
- Bruising
- Swelling from accidents & recent injuries (including Whiplash)
- Post-surgical swelling & edema
- Secondary edema from auto-immune diseases & dysfunction
- Chronic fatigue & Fibromyalgia
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Migraines & sinus headaches
- General detoxification & improved immune system function
MLD is also very relaxing, and can provide a much-needed mental reset at the same time it helps clear away hidden pools and blockages trapped in the body.
Stone Medicine — Somatic Reintegration
Stone medicine is great for digging deep, grounding, and accessing your core energy. Depending on what you need, Stone medicine can warm your tissues and improve the flow of blood & energy — or it can penetrate deep into your stored experiences and bring clarity for personal issues you’re working on.
Using a combination of natural, traditional medicine tools — including but not limited to Stones — and auditory + sensory + visualization tools, I will help you explore past experiences stored in your tissues, safely and with full support.
Most sessions will be performed fully clothed, allowing for comfortable movement and security, and may involve a combination of discussion, bodywork, visualization, and movement. Contact me to learn more.
Note: this is not hot stone massage. (Although that can be a lovely experience as well, in the hands of a skilled therapist.) What I call “Stone medicine” is influenced by Polyvagal theory, Trauma-informed therapy, Peter Levine’s “Somatic Experiencing,” John Upledger’s “Cell Talk,” Somatic Education, as well as native and indigenous practices.
